From Black History Month
Cat in the Hat
Our class celebrated Black History Month and decided to create a television show to display our work. We created the Oprah Winfrey show since one of the students were starring as Oprah. They enjoyed this project and it was definitely a great learning experience instead of a regular book report about someone in history.

I recently just finished my digital storytelling project with my third grade students on the book Pippi Longstocking. At first I was completely overwhelmed and felt that it was going to very discouraging. After I completed the assignment, it was very rewarding and the students and parents loved it. I posted it on our class blogging site and parents gave feedback which was great. I know that it was not perfect and that there are many ways that we can improve it, but the students were very pleased with the end product and the main thing is that it is their work. The part I found that was a little difficult was gathering the voices to match the pictures. I was grateful that Brian helped me and showed me how to do it. For the next project, I know I will need his assistance again, until I really master the steps of putting the assignment together. I felt that the students enjoyed and gained an understanding through this learning process. Next time, I will have the students dress up and act like a person in history for Black History month. I informed them on the project, and they seem very excited. I also explained to the students that this is a learning process for me as well because I am not completely familiar with it, so we will learn together.

My third grade class worked with the second grade and kindergarten class on a project. Each class used the book teaching different skills and following grade standards. Then we collaboratively worked together drawing pictures and retelling the story in our own words. The children did very well, and each child was very helpful in every group.
